Summer on Waiheke!
Summertime on Waiheke Island – long hot days filled with laughter, sun and joy!
The island is abuzz with all our visitors and we are loving it, well I guess apart from not finding parking at the beach, but it’s ok “I know a spot” – as most locals will say. Or just jump on your scooter, bicycle or put your jandals on and take a stroll. Watch out for the Jandal blow-out which is quite common at this time of year and be prepared with a backup pair. You know – get ready and get thru, applies to any emergency situation.
Summer here is light-hearted, we can relax and be silly, tell that corny joke and just unwind and let the stress of everyday life melt away. All around us is the sound of laughter, the crack of the bat as a family plays beach cricket and the gentle lapping of the waves at Palm beach.
As you drive through the island the chilled beats of live music and DJs at one of the many vineyards fills the air, island tours with music pumping and visitors dancing along on their way to another tasting. Multi coloured beach umbrellas, lush green vines with the shades of bush and nature alongside, mingling with the clear blues of the ocean, reminds us that we are getting away from it all and part of island life for the moment.
Travelling from one winery to the next – we are regaled with the story of each and the fascinating journey from the vine to the glass, the creation of something amazing through nurturing and love. Our winemakers and winery hosts coming from many different parts of the world and bringing their unique perspective and entertainment to the experience.
There are long afternoons sampling the finest wines and taking in the amazing sights. Strolling along the vines and understanding the care that goes into each sip, taking in the carefully maintained gardens, and seeing the sights back to the city left behind.
You can say hello to a curly cow, you can sip a bold red with the light sea sand and clear blue water in the background. You can stay a while or just have a fleeting visit.
It’s the time to pause, breathe, “slow down you are here” and reconnect with your friends and family. An opportunity to refresh the mind and soul, knowing “This is where I should be right now”
Wherever your journey takes you next, you can continue refreshed and with a content smile and keep the memories with you. Come back any time, we love to show you our island and share our slice of paradise, where every day is summer on the island.
We all sometimes need a Pick-Me-Up and Waiheke island is the best place for it!
